Indian Premier League (IPL) is Twenty-Twenty tournment promoted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and it has ICC approval. Initially, BCCI was hestiant to promote T20 matches in India, fearing it may spoil other forms of cricket. But, to counter Subhash Chandra's Indian Cricket League (ICL) BCCI started IPL. Givent the T20's business model and success of ICC T20 world cup were also the reasons behind BCCI's change of mind.
IPL tournment will start on April 18 and the final is on June 1. Eight teams participate the tournment. Each team will each each of other 7 teams twice, once at home and once at away. The two semi-finals and the final will be played at Mumbai.
